東方快車謀殺案:在列車中心呼喚愛
如果要選擇一部能讓自己反复觀看的電影,改編自阿加莎克里斯蒂小說的【東方快車謀殺案】(Murder on the Orient Express) 是其中之一。阿加莎的小說素來有clean murder的聲譽,因大部分死者都該死,兇手都處於道德驅使,案件大快人心。當然道德感過重亦是阿加莎的硬傷,誰能替誰作道德判斷?在倫敦戲院觀捕鼠夾(mousetrap)時只感到涼颼颼,她似乎有替天行道的意思,有時不惜謀殺良人。
阿加莎的小說主角偵探波洛是比利時人,母語為法語。(常有人怒道:你這個愛偷聽的法國小人!而波洛總是糾正:比利時小人!愛偷聽的比利時小人!)他的英文帶濃重的口音,在英國倒也常見。這一點在上影的中文配音版中不得體現,現在看原版才能發現異國口音使得波洛顯得生硬而嚴肅,不是我之前熟悉的那個滑稽角色。原來東方快車謀殺案開頭一段是波洛的內心掙扎,之前一個案件中目睹青年軍官在他面前開槍自殺,之後同伴忍淚道, he was a good man, he didn't deserve to die. 是小時沒注意,還是上影版的剪掉了之前這一段?波洛睡前用法文禱告的也被剪——從不知他原來是虔誠的天主教徒。這段和之前為青年自殺而內心愧疚的戲也對上了. 東方快車謀殺案的中文配音版是部搞笑的戲,但是英文原版原來壓抑陰森。語言加上意識形態,能夠改變的太多.
五年前紐約顯赫家族阿姆斯特朗上校的五歲幼女daisy遭綁架並在收到贖款後撕票。綁架者因這筆款子而發跡且得以鑽世俗法律的空子而逍遙法外。五年後,當年綁架案中的牽連者,愛護daisy的親朋好友聚集於東方快車頭等艙,集體刺殺了五年前逃脫於世俗法律的兇手。

【東】不止於復仇,原來是部關於宗教與人性掙扎的片子。波洛的掙扎在於是否能夠寬恕自己,年輕人舉槍自殺的情形在他眼前揮之不去;每個與daisy案有牽連的人物都反复禱告,將刺殺兇手作為神的旨意。復仇是因為無法原諒。而波洛的問題是,那誰來原諒復仇者?誰來原諒人?
daisy當年的護士自責沒有保護好daisy內心愧疚,遠走非洲傳教。但不為天主教會,因為天主教講寬恕,而她認為有些人不應被寬恕:‘Catholic doctrines are wrong. All these forgiveness. Because there are certian things that God will never forgive. I saw Jesus, who protects me, as I protect the children. ’
其他人辯道:當年daisy只不過是個孩子,她被殺害時有多害怕?對愛她的人來說,我們應該尋遍這個世界的每個角落為她謀得正義(That baby must be so scared when you killed her, didn't you think that we wouldn't search the whole world for justice, for people we love?)
而法律讓他們失望,因此只有靠自己:Law let us down.
波洛用他特有的憤怒顫抖吼道:法律是讓我們自律的。你們這些上流社會的人們讓上帝失望!Rule of law must be held up high. you all high society people, you let God down!
有人爭論道:我問過上帝,他說,做你認為對的。如果我那樣去做了,我會得到寬恕,重新成為完整的人。I asked God, and he said, do what is right. If I do, it will make me complete again
波路問,那你現在感到自己完整了麼?(Are you?)
女人哭了:但我做了正確的選擇!But I did what was right (woman cried)
中文配音版的結局似乎天下太平。而原本繼承本片陰鬱沉重的風格,波洛遠望窗外,依然緊鎖眉頭。
人間的律法令人失望的時候,怎樣去向神尋求公正?而當我們無法原諒他人的罪過時,又要怎樣原諒自己的?
